Bagaimana cara foto-foto pribadi para selebritas dicuri dan disebarluaskan masih menjadi misteri hingga detik ini, tapi sejumlah teori menyalahkan rentannya iCloud, sistem penyimpanan berbasin awan (cloud) milik Apple.

Secara spesifik, salah satu teori menyatakan si peretas berhasil membongkar password iCloud para selebritas dan mengacak-acak data penyimpanan mereka setelah mendapatkan akses. Menurut lansiran The Daily Dot, tersangka peretas kemungkinan menggunakan perangkat bernama iBrute, yang memanfaatkan iCloud bug sehingga memungkinkan seseorang masuk secara paksa dengan menebak beberapa password umum, sampai password yang tepat berhasil membuka sistem penyimpanan itu.

Memang belum ada konfirmasi soal penggunaan iBrute: Pencipta alat tersebut belum melihat buktinya, tapi mengakui hal itu bisa saja terjadi. iBrute menggunakan 500 password paling umum yang bocor dari sebuah layanan bernama RockYou. Layanan tersebut pernah membeberkan 32 juta username dan password pada 2009 silam. Pencipta RockYou mengunggah password tersebut dalam sebuah daftar panjang di situs developer GitHub.

Kami menyajikan 500 password paling umum di bawah ini. Password yang bisa dideteksi iBrute meliputi satu huruf kapital dan satu nomor, jadi sandi seperti “password” dan “iloveyou” tidak akan muncul dalam daftar ini.

Meskipun password tersebut bocor pada 2009, Great Celebrity Hack of 2014 merupakan pengingat bahwa jika Anda menggunakan salah satu dari 500 password di bawah ini di layanan apa pun, sekarang sudah saatnya Anda menggantinya.
